The Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth today honored ACE Center Task Force founder Barbara H. Nixon with the Jim Pryor Child Advocacy Award. The annual award honors a Tennessean who has made a difference in the lives of children.

Continuing an extensive history in social work and social service, Nixon is co-chair of the newly formed Adverse Childhood Events (ACE) Center Task Force of Shelby County. Nearly 20 years ago, she first brought attention in Memphis to the importance of brain development in early childhood and the primary importance of prevention. Nixon has made tremendous contributions to children, youth and families in Memphis. She is particularly recognized as a pioneer in mental health reform and early childhood advocacy.
