ACE Awareness is focused on helping families deal with the challenges the pandemic has brought on by offering parents, grandparents, and other family members who are caring for children a range of tools they can use to bring periods of peace and calm into their world and that of their children.
Our new online series, Parenting in the Pandemic: Tools for Surviving and Thriving, is a calendar of interactive workshops designed to deliver tools and information to promote good mental health at a time when the pressures and stressors in our lives might feel overwhelming.
These sessions are being offered to replace the direct support and counseling that were bring provided at the four Universal Parenting Places before COVID-19 struck. The UPPs are judgment-free community-based centers that provide professional counseling with a licensed therapist; information, emotional support, and referrals for family-related issues and concerns. They also offer opportunities for families to participate in stress-reduction and parent-child bonding activities.
The three-month virtual event series is supported by the Shelby County Commission via funds it received from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. A variety of topics and experiences will be featured, ranging from mindfulness exercises and grief therapy to family celebrations and holiday crafting. A number of experts in child development and trauma-informed programs have been invited to help parents unpack emotions and participate in creative bonding events with their families.
